Missed hunting first day in NY
« on: October 15, 2011, 06:22:00 PM »
How did everyone do this first day of bow season in NY's southern zone? I missed for the first time since 1998. My 17 yr old son got a concussion in a Friday night football game and we were in the Syracuse University Hospital until 5am. He's alright, there were six different football players in the ER at the same time. We found out today that a player in a game in Homer NY died on the way to the hospital. Really puts things into perspective . It was raining all afternoon so I didn't go out. Just wondering how the rest of you hunters did. I live about 60 miles south of Syracuse and it looks like there's quite a few deer this year. Good luck everyone and please stay safe. Rob

Went out first thing this morning but only stayed out for a couple of hrs. The rain just wouldn't let up. It didn't take long to get soaked even when staying in the pines.
I can't get out tomorrow so I hope next weekend will bring better weather.
I reckon so

Windy and rainy.  Than my neighbors brought down a tractor 100 yards away and started cuting wood at 2:00PM, but the rain drove them back in.  I thought it was going to be a washout . . . but at 4:00PM two does came by and the larger offerred me a broadside I just couldn't pass up.

Good luck guys. A move, and work will keep me out of the woods until a week from Tuesday.

I should have stayed out hunting the whole day.

The moon walking in was beautiful as was the first couple hours.  Then the wind.  A tree crashed to the ground a hundred yards away and it felt like an earthquake.  That should have been a clue.  But, then the walnuts started falling all around me with a thud.  ...  Those buggers were picking up speed at about 100 feet of gravity feed energy.

What I should have done is set up again in an area protected from the wind.

Congrats, Stumpkiller.  Your patience paid off.
Bob
