Just loose it
« on: October 17, 2011, 02:03:00 PM »
Have any of you just lost your ability to shoot? I mean I never was great but missing the whole backstop is bad and no consistancy what so ever. I don't know what is wrong and have no one to watch me so all I know to do it start from the beginning. I feel like it's something simple that I have just overlooked.

Lay off for a couple of days and see if that helps

Walk up to your target and at less than 2 yards, draw, feel every aspect of your shot...bow in hand, string on fingers, anchor spot, close your eyes if you have to so's not to concentrate on a spot and release...feel the release...where is your release hand landing upon completion?

Some call it "running the shot" and there are dozens of terms...but it's breaking down the shot into manageable parts and then doing each one consciously to see what you might be doing wrong.

Masters of the Bare Bow III helps with some of that...

Good luck!

What Chris suggested may work. If not try some blind bale work. Concentrate on form. Be arm's length from the bale with no target, just a blank bale. I use a piece of carpet over my bag target. Work on consistent anchor, clean release, and follow-through, keeping your bow arm steady after the shot.

You are probably peeking...trying to see where the arrow is going to hit. Don't ask how I know this. You could even try this with your eyes closed. That forces you to concentrate on form instead of the target.

Hope this helps.

First check brace height, then nocking point...then practice drawing bow without arrow in front of mirrow hold for a three count at your anchor point...do about 20 or more times a day..then go past anchor point by a 1/2 inch and hold  for a moment and let down to your anchor point..let bow halfway off..then back past anchor point and hold..do several reps..then shoot bow..happens to everyone....DAVE

Thanks guys. Like I said it must be somewhere in the shot sequence. So I will work on that.

What Doc Nock said.

I think this is the first time I ever agreed with him.  :)
