Trying something new, tips on bleet cans and grunt tubes.

Well today I decided to try A bleet can(estrues) and a grunt tube. I never used the can before and tried a tube once years ago. So when I head out(Saturday night) what are some tips to using these tools. How often how long and what sequence to use. Thanks in advance. Tim

i dont use a grunt tube but when i rattle and it has payed off this last week i rattled-grunted in 4 bucks in to 15yds and i like the bleat can if i have a buck that with a doe and want his attention them grunt in 2 short burst to sound as it she is being pushed by another buck. also read on the package their might be a specific word or sound that helps when calling with your grunt tube as well for better performance good luck this weekend

i forgot i only rattle bout every 1.5 hours and bleat when see other bucks with does

This morning I had a 3 point, small 4 point, and larger 4 point come by me. One following the other. I thought, I will try something and see how it works out. After they were about 75 yds from me in a clear cut, I took a bleat can out of my bag and bleated twice. The 3 point and the small 4 came back. Because of a tree line I could not see the larger 4 point or his reaction. They stood for a miniute with there necks stretched out and noses in the air smelling. I thought let me try this grunt tube and see what happens. Grunted softly a couple of times, a rather deep grunt, what a mature buck would sound like. Looked like they had been hit in the rump with a red hot poker. Took off running away from me into the woods. Guess they did not want to get spanked.

I killed a 6 point last year at 12:30 p.m. I was using a can, grunt and a rattle bag. The next weekend I called in a nice 8 point for my grandson but we got busted on a downwind deal. Early morning I will use this sparingly,about every hour. Around 11 a.m. I will crank it up some about every 30 minutes and by 1:p.m. I will get stupid with it. It's worked more than once. Oh and dont tell anybody, they might get wise to it.

I grunt/rattle/bleat about every 20-30 minutes, a lot like turkey calling, works best when rut is peaking as it is here now. Dont use a deep grunt like a mature dominant buck, unless you want to run off any smaller bucks. If you use a softe grunt junior bucks will come in to challenge, investigate, big ones will come in to run him off. Have killed a lot of deer using nothing but a grunt tube, rattling only works rarley here.

I have always had good luck with the doe bleat can. I have called bucks back after missing them at times. I am sure the buck didn't realize what spooked them. I had 4 young deer snort at me from downwind one evening. They ran about 70 yards and stopped like young one doe. I used the doe bleat and called them back to the tree almost.  

For some reason calling or rattling has not worked at all this year. They stop and look around then walk off.

I've never had much luck with grunt tubes, but I wouldn't think of being in the woods during the rut with a buck tag and no bleat can. This morning I had a buck come in to check a scrape and spotted  me at less than ten yards. He trotted about twenty yards and slowed to walk away. The first bleat stopped him cold. Another soft bleat a few seconds later turned him and brought him closer for a shot. He piled up thirty yards later and made for a rather tasty dinner tonight.

He's not the first buck I killed after using a bleat can that would have otherwise not presented a shot, and I'm sure he won't be the last. As a general rule, I don't blind call and I won't use it unless a buck is not heading my way or looking in my direction. Once he locks in on the sound and starts to come in, I stop calling.

Ued the Big Can today and a had buck come in. Not exactly sure if he was responding to the call or if he was just wanting to go through the saddle I was posted in.

This morning, I saw two bucks crossing a field about 200 yards from where I was standing in some brush. Did the bleat, using a grunt tube set to sound like a doe, and both of them came like they were on a string. They got to within about 30 yards and hung up, looking oh so hard for that doe that made the come hither noise. A swirl of wind finished the scenario, but it was really cool to watch them come to me.
