Am sure this as been dicussed before..horn points ?
« on: November 12, 2011, 03:23:00 PM »
Why in the East do they count both sides and in the West only count one side? Is this a "mine is bigger than yours" ego thing? I grew up only counting one side and continue to do so. Just curious. Please keep this debate free.

In places like Texas, they count whitetails with eastern count, but I think they count mule deer with western count. Same reason that in the south they say "ya'll", and we say "you guys".   :dunno:    :dunno:    :dunno:

Just curious because I am in and from Michigan.  If you shoot a buck out west and it has more points on one side than the other which side do you count?  If you count the better side, is that an ego thing?

They do that out west with ladies also if she's 300# they count her as 150#er its very confusing and misleading...LOL No harm intended.

I always heard them refer to them as 4x4 or 5x5 what is the deal. Is a spike a 1 pointer?

Nope a spike is just that a spike. A fork horn
Is a young deer with two  on each side.   An animal with 4 on each side is a 4 point.  A non-typical has both sides called out,  4 x 5, etc......
