Turkey Feathers
« on: July 14, 2007, 05:48:00 PM »
Hi Everyone,

New to the board (1st post).

Got a question about Turkey Feathers for fletching.
How "soft" of feather can you use and still have good flight results?

I have always used the stiffest wing feathers that have the shortest biots.

Are there "other" feathers that can be used from the bird for fletching?

Thanks! Jameson

Great site, just what I have been looking for!

Primary and secondary wing feathers are good. I use both with good results.

Thanks Osagetree!

Those are the ones that I have been using. I was just wondering if some of the other turkey feathers could be used .

Thanks for the reply!

I've used tail feathers from wild turkey...not as tough as the primaries, but they do well enough...

OK!

This is what I am talking about!

Bowspirit, were you able to use both right and left halves of the split tail feather?

I use left wing clamps with my Bitzenburgers, can the both halves be used in a "left-wing" clamp since there is very little curve in the tail feathers?

Thanks in advance!
