bob lee takedown recurve, 58" or 60"
« on: November 20, 2011, 03:34:00 AM »
i've shot a 58" (19" riser) lee for a few years now. i may be up for a new set of limbs and was wondering if a set of limbs to make a 60" bow would suit me better? i draw close to 28" to the belly of the grip. i love shooting 58" just wondering i'd love a 60" more? could expect a gain in performance or shootablity?

i have noticed that after a couple of years that the finish crazes a bit at the fades. i'm concerned that this is this a sign that i might be over drawing the 58"?
they are 54#@28" and i'd get the same again.

Mate , every day of the week I'd go longer . You won't notice any loss in performance IMO , but it will be a tad smoother . Its only an inch at each end .
At 28" I'd be going 60" for sure ... and maybe even longer .

With your 28" draw, I think you'd like a 60" length recurve.

I draw 29" and prefer a 62" bow. The longer the better. You will not even notice the extra couple of inches.

If you're drawing 28" to the belly of the grip, your draw length is maybe 30" or so.  Are you sure you didn't mean the back of the grip?

I have a few Lee's my draw is 27&1/2 I like
a 60" over the 58" all my Lee's are 19" long
risers. Go with the 60". I have the same
crazing on my older limbs no problem.

60 for sure with that draw.  I had one that was 62 and regret getting rid of it.  It was way smoohter than my 58 and just as fast.  Sold it cause it had a high wrist grip should just had the handle reshaped.

Yes that true, your draw length is a little below 30" if you measure it from string to deeper part of riser. If so, on this 58" AMO/19"riser recurve, the last inch of draw is probably out of the sweet spot (of the draw force curve).
With a 60" bow, you will get a tad less finger pinch and feel bow is smoother at the back end of the draw. But arrow speed will be quite the same.
Better would be 60" with 15" riser if you draw around 30".

thanks guys. i've asked the guys at bob lee the same questions just waiting for reply.
Mcdave- yes that is to the deepest part of the grip. so your right, my amo draw will be close to 30".

if i get new limbs i think i'll go the 60" bow on the 19" riser i have.
