Poll-Liberty bows, Contender or Chief?
« on: July 16, 2007, 10:33:00 AM »
I'm checking opinions on his bows just in case I have to buy new after coming back from Denton Hill and not finding anything down there.. I want a modern Longbow but has the curves of a traditional bow and is about 66" long.. I can handle handshock because of my osage selfbows but prefer a dead in the hand bow thats accurate and not unstable and fussy with arrows.

so someone recommended Liberty and I've picked out the  64" chief (think thats the longest with a chief) OR  66"  contender,,,, whats ya think??

I have had both and they both shoot great.Currantly have a Contender. Its 68 inches. The contender has a D shape when strung. The cheifs limbs flatten out a bit so its not a true D shape. It had more reflex in the limb.
The cheif is a tad faster i believe. Both bows are quiet and pleasant shooting for me.They have a solid feel and are stable shooting.I think the cheif does come in 66 inches.Either choice is a good one.I wanted a D shaped bow so I got a contender currantly.Really like the chief though as well.

I've shot a "66 Chief.  Sweet.  Also shot a Contender.  You can't go wrong with either.

My vote is for the Contender, especially if you want the traditional "D' shape. The hand shock of either of these bows is unnoticeable. Either way you will be pleased.

Allen Boice is just another one of those outstanding Oregon bowyers who makes a quality longbow at a reasonable price.  I like both models, but my nod goes to the Contender at 68".

One more vote for the Contender.  I bought a 66" TD from Rick W. (also 'pre-owned' by Mitch) and its a very nice bow.  If you prefer a D-shape profile over the more flat-limbed R/D look, and want a bow with a bit more centershot and zip than a Hill, its a nice choice.

I will be at Denton with a brand new Chief Elite. 66 inch long and 49#@28 inches. I ususally camp about 100 yards in from the registration trailer on the right side and I drive a gray Honda Element. If you can't find one to buy, you can at least try mine and see how you like it. Look me up if you need a test run. Once you see it I will have to worry just a bit about getting it back though, it's a beauty.
Just ask for Wingman around my vehicle and we should be able to connect.
