Still hanging in there!
« on: December 04, 2011, 10:52:00 PM »
Well I got my tall tines tuned and ready to start shooting on the 20th of October, on the 22nd I killed my target buck I had been watching grow since May and as soon as I hit my release I was wishing I had my newly bought recurve but that wasn't the case.  The first two hunts with the Tall Tines I have already posted about but in case you missed them they were filled with shooter bucks inside of 15 yards with perfect angles for the shots but we only get 1 buck tag in Kentucky other than special quota hunts.  I have hunted every Saturday since trying to fill my last doe tag which has been unusually hard.  I was thinking back and the last doe I saw in bow range was on the 23rd of September.  Since it has been all bucks some shooters, and some not.  Only saw 2 does and both never even got close to being in range.  Heck I can't even get a squirrel close enough to shoot at.  Our gun season has just went out and smoke pole season comes in for the next two weekends so the deer have been pressured like crazy around my farm, movement is almost all at night but I ain't giving up.  I vow to hunt till the season closes in January if I have to get my first trad deer.  I'm going to hang a new stand this week for Saturday and hope it all comes together that morning.  I have always loved bow hunting more so than all my other hobbies, hunting and fishing.  But the simplicity of trad gear has ignited a new fire.  My wife says she hopes I kill one before the end of the year because I might be hard to deal with till next September.   :biglaugh:     I don't think I will be that bad, but it will be a long summer for sure.  Wish me luck on the remainder of my season.  Hope to take some pics next time out of the Tall Tines in its natural environment

Your attitude is great.

That's what it takes to make successful hunters.

The willpower to keep after it even when things are tough.

Good luck to you!

God bless,Mudd

I know how you feel. Inevitably, when your buck tag is filled and you can only shoot a doe, you only see bucks.  I've been fighting the same thing all year.  Now that the snows about to fall and its gun season, I'm waiting until 19 December to get back into the woods for the late bow season split.

Don't get discourage David. There are guys on here that have been trying for years for their first success story. We are blessed to live in a place where we have many targets walking around. With that and the way you shoot it won't be long, keep after them.
