Bear Outfitter
« on: December 11, 2011, 01:36:00 PM »
Hey guys Im looking for a outfitter close to Oregon that caters to trad bow hunters. We cant bait here in Oregon and hounds are out. I really want to get a nice rug. Most of the outfitters on this board That i have found seam to be out east like Maine. I went toone Tradgangers web site and all I can say is if I still lived in Michigan Id be headed to Main this fall LOL. Anyway Ive done a lot of spot and stalk hunts with my bow and just can never seam to get closer than 40 yards and they blow out of there A few years ago I took a shot at 40 and missed. I could just rifle hunt spring bear and most likley get one but I really want to shoot one with my recurve. I looked into going with Jim Shockey up on vancuver Island for a spot and stalk but he wants 6k to 8K for a hunt. There is no way Id pay over 2500 to 3K Id like to hunt good bait sites or even hound hunt them dont much care Ive done both in the past and both can be a challange and are a blast. Any recommendations? or Outfitters to stay away from? Thanks Stump

Check out Rob Nye in Saskatchewan. He shoots a longbow and will have you set up for a 15 yd shot. He's got two different hunts a fly-in hunt in northern SK in June and a lodge hunt farther south in may. I've been on the fly-in hunt and plan to go again in 2012.  The southern camp is in your budget. A bonus to the fly in hunt is world class fishing. Fresh fish for lunch everyday guaranteed!!!

Stickflingers. Coarse all you get to hunt is one day. You tag out on a 7 footer and you get to run baits, fish, and eat Ms Bea's cookin for a week!  :)  Yep that place stinks!

I have a cancellation list....that's getting long too! Spots do come up though, you can always go on a list and say "No" later. We got a really good thing here in Manitoba with a one bear limit and very limited non-resident tags.

Personally and honestly I'd look into Manitoba or Saskatchewan...it's worth the trip. Rob Nye has a great camp too. Best of luck....Ryan

Check with Ted Fry at Raptor Archery.  (One of the sponsors) He guides spring bear hunts in Idaho.  I think you get about a week to hunt.  I haven't been with him, but he's a super nice guy.
