got one with my brush bow
« on: December 13, 2011, 05:37:00 PM »
Well my wife said the season was getting on and we better get out in the woods and see what we could find.
I got out my little brush bow because I knew we would be getting in close. This little bow only has an 18 inch draw length, but it drops them right where they are standing if you use it right.
On our way to the hunting area, we had to slow down and let a buck and a doe get out of the road. This is looking good, I think.
Finally we park and see lots of tracks where other hunters had been into this same muskeg. I was hoping they had not cleaned them out. However, not long after we started hunting, a small one appears right in front of us. "Too scrawny" says the wife. So on we go, trudging thru the snow.
A few more are seen here and there between the big trees, but we let them go too.
Pretty soon we see THE ONE. I circled around to get another angle on it, and knew I could take it. Got the little bow all set and drew it back. And let it down. And drew it back....
Next thing you know, I did not even know I had released it, when I see it on the ground. After saying Thank You, and a moment of silence, we loaded it into the truck and went back over the river and thru the woods to the house...

Merry Christmas to all, and I hope you get a good one too!!

You get any pics of it on your trail camera before the season?

When I was a kid my Dad and I always stalked ours together. He had a great eye for a trophy that would fit just right mounted in the living room.

It was the only time we hunted what we didn't eat.    :bigsmyl:

Yup, you don't need a big honking chainsaw.  That little brushbow will take down anything in North America.

I got a Pope and Young one of those in September, but I left it in the woods.

Yep, "catch and release" is a LOT less work.
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!
