marking bow weights under lacquer

Hi Bowyers
I need some advise. What kind of ink, or paint can i use to write the bow weights ect, on the bow limbs under clear lacquer. i welcome all advise.

The paint pens will work ok, but the paint needs to be completely dry. permanent ink felt markers won't work.

i would recommend using a good exterior grade poly, or a spar varnish, over a lacquer for a bow finish. mimwax or helmsman make decent rattle can products.

I used a caligraphy pen and ink on a couple of bow blanks I did.I got white and black ink for different bows.

Yep, me too.  I've tried pens, but get my best results with ink.  It comes in gold as well for the old Bears, etc.

For what it's worth....I've always heard that lacquer is too brittle to be a good bow finish.  As mentioned above, spar varnish or poly would be better.  Of course the catalyzed finishes are great also.

A big thank you to all who gave me advice  on what finnishes to use over bow that wont make the ink run.
anyone one else have any other finishes'

Never tried it, but I would think that those fine tip Sharpie markers would work well.  Unless of course the lacquer eats through the ink.
