Advise on Carbon shafts - Silvertip 53 lb @ 28"

I am currently shooting aluminum and wanting to try carbon shafts.  I am seeking some advise on what combination of carbon shaft and weight tip I should try.  The bow is a Silvertip at 53 lbs with FF drawing 28".  I would like to stick with WW or Zwickey Eskimo heads.  I am currently shooting 2216's cut to 29.5" with approx 160 gr heads plus insert. I have thought about trying the CE Heritage (150 or 250), but I am open to other shafts.  I would like to hear some recommendations or combos that others are using with similar setups.  Thank you in advance!

John,  the 2216 has a spine of .376 look for a carbon shaft with a spine of .400  I shot 2216 out of BW 53#@28" I draw 29. I had great results with the GoldTip 55/75 cut 30" with a 100gr brass insert and a 145gr point. I'm not a big fan of GT now but the spine of that shaft was .400.. I started with the shaft @31" installed the 100gr insert and 145gr point and started bare shaft testing @10yards I made 1/4 inch cuts till it tested perfect. Easton Axis 400 are .400 spine. carbon express Heritage 150 spine @.487 and the 250 @ .373.  these are just numbers the bare shaft test will tell all. Good Luck  Mark

I shoot the Heritage 150's with 2 grains per inch weight tubes with 125gr points cut to 29". They weigh in at 525grs and fly great out of all my bows 48# through 60#. The bows are all cut close to center. Bowhunter's Superstore has a great price on the shafts...$62.95 dz.

The 150 will fly percect out of that bow. Cut it to 29.5"s and shoot it just as the other arrow, the regular insert and 160 grain head will give ya roughly 175 up front. I shoot them out of a Arroyo that is 54#s at my draw 28.5"s and cut them to 29.5" and add a 50 grain brass insert and 125 grain head and they fly perfect. I shot them out of a Silvertip that was 54#s as well with perfect flight, all done up if ya put on a wrap and 3 5" feather ya will be right around 500 grains. Shawn

I would venture to say the Heritage 250's will not work out of your bow. The 150's should be fine as would the Arrow Dynamics Traditional Lites. The AD's are quite a bit higher in cost than the Carbon Express.

From my experience the Silvertips are very accomodating to different spines.  My 60" 57@28 non FF will shoot GT traditionals 3555 and 5575's identically or very near using 175 grain fp's and the same shaft setup.

After what I saw this morning I would recommand you spend the extra money and get a test kit from 3 rivers. I am shooting boyh the CX Heritage 150`s and 250`s from my bows. My Bear at 55lbs @28 likes 29in 150`s but my Wes Wallace longbow at 55lbs @ 28 likes and shoots the 250`s the best.
Yes, I used the same weight tips. If I ever get another bow a test kit is the way I will go.

I say CX Heritage 150's cut to 29" with at least 175gr points!  my 51# widow bare shafts that set-up perfect except my arrows ar 28" BOP and I'm drawing 27"

Start with GoldTip 3555 and 125 gr points.  Should be real close.  The lighter ones are about 30.5 inches full length.

Please do not shoot those 35/55 out of that ST with only 125 up front, ya may get OK flight(I doubt it)but they would be awful light and void your warranty. Shawn
