Big Heavy Broadhead Info Please!!! PICS!!!
« on: July 18, 2007, 12:43:00 AM »
Can anyone give me some info one these big guys...I have quite a few, and think they are Satalite brand.  They do have bleeders to become a 4 blade, but are 175 grns as a 2 blade.  Shoot real well and sharpen up real well.  Have never tried them on a live animal, but am anxious to.

Has anyone seen, shot or had experience with them?  Thanks alot

I believe that is a Satellite Titan. The ferrule color indicates the grain weight, but I have forgotten the color/weight match. Seems that blue ferrule was 125 grain. Not sure about yellow, although you seem to know it is 175 grain. I used them for two seasons back when I shot compounds. Good broadhead. Had two pass thrus on the only two deer I ever shot with them. Originally purchased them because they were plentiful (Wal-Mart and Academy carried them), they were very affordable, and they looked deadly. Which they are. They were razor sharp out of the box. I only used the two blade and did not use the bleeders either. Haven't seen them around in the past few years. If you've got some, screw 'em in and let 'em fly. Good luck.

These are Satellite-II, also called Satellite-II 4C with the bleeders in place. The bleeder blades are the same as used in the old Satellite Aero-4 as main blades and quallify IMO as real bleeders in that respect as they are THIN and would likely break away if anything hard (bone) is hit. I've had three dz. of them - which are quite are regular seen on that famous auction site.
Used them only for practise sessions and found the main blade not as tough as it looks on first sight. Should not be a problem with deer sized game, I suppose.
Satellite also made glue-on versions. The tread is simply replaced by a glue-on ferrule wich screws into the corpus. That way they are 187gr with bleeders attached.

Yep, those are Satellite 2's.  I've got a bunch somewhere around here.

Mine weigh about 180 as a 4 blade.  Sharpen well, kind of a strange bleeder locking system that creates a secondary joint, which unfortunately makes good spin difficult but not impossible.

Like Falk, I think they'd be just fine for deer, but I've not personally killed anything with one just messed around with them some.

Falk - if I may ask, what in yor practice sessions made you discover that they were not as tough?

Jake, sure!
I had the mainblade bent to easily to my liking. I think it was a wooden chair I chosed for "testing" the Satellite-II. The back of the chair was to fake a ribcage with it's 6 or 7 ?spokes it was build of  :)
Did bent and/or warped blades out of alignment with hitting the wood.

Sorry Over/Under! My $.02 opinion was worth just that. The gold ferrule threw me a bit. These guys seem to know what they are talking about. I haven't shot Satellite in over 10 years. Good luck.

Falk - interesting choice of a fake ribcage, but sounds like a pretty good test of the real thing to me...good idea!!!!  You would probably loose some penetration if that occured on a real ribcage...Good to know!

Thanks for the info, I will have to some testing of my own to see how they might preform under hunting conditions...
