Making Skinny Strings

I have been making flemish twist strings out of B-50 for many years now.

I would like to try making a few "Skinny Strings" for my FF compatable bows.

BCY D-10 is the string material I ordered.  I would like to make a 6 strand string for my 45# bow.

Here are my questions:

1) Do I need to pad the loops?  If yes how is this done and what material do I use?  

I'm thinking I should just add some B-50 to the top and bottom 6" of my string bundle....correct?

2) How do I get proper nock fit with such a small diameter string?  Do I build up the area to be served with extra material?  If yes how and what material do I use? Also what diameter/type of serving?  I have always used the cheap stuff that comes on a metal server.

3) Anything different if I want to build an 8-10 strand "Skinny String"?

4) Anything I missed?

Ten I have a buddy who twisted B50 into the area he was serving to build it up just like when you pad the loops. Seems to work well.

I would just add some extra strands into the loops by cutting some 9" strips of the same material and twisting your loops with about 14-16 strands total. As far as building up the serving area I would just double serve the string with different materials until I found what worked for me.

tenbrook, I notice on the string that came on my Northern Mist Shelton that steve started the center serving in the center of the string, served up to where you would normally begin, then just started back the other way and down to the usuaul ending point.  That made the serving area double thinkness for better nock fit where you need it, but the entire serving was not double where it didn't need to be--and it makes a very neat looking serving.

I use 1/2" scotch tape under serving and build up loops with same material as string 8-16.

For a 6 strand D10 string, I serve first with .017 then serve the opposite direction with .024.

I pad my skinny string to 14 or 16 total using 12" strips of dacron.

I've wrapped Dental floss maybe one or two twists around the knock area. Worked great for me.

Lots of good methods above. I pad the loops with the same string material, or B50-pad to 16 strands, and taper the lengths. As for the serving area I lay in 4-5 strands of string material and serve over that.
