Primitive archery on outdoor channel
« on: July 19, 2007, 10:28:00 AM »
Did any of you see the segment on "Get in the Game" on the Outdoor Channel this morning? They had a 10min segment on primitive archery with a guy name Thad ???(can't remember last name). He showed how to make cane arrows, animal glue, tie on stone points and turkey fletchings. The guy did a good job of demonstrating each aspect and giving historical information.

Anyway, thought some of you might want to check it out. They usually replay the shows during the week.

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.

I saw that show a couple of week ago. His name is Thad Beckum. He has a video out that is on primitive skills. He covers flintknapping, buckining, bow making making sinew strings, and arrow making. He even takes two deer with all primitive equipment. It's called "Full Circle". One of my favorite videos.

Yeah Thad Bekum seemed to be the real deal. Looked like he'd done it all and lived it as well.
Shoots a stone point into a doe's spine, she dropped at the shot, that stone point knocked her right down just like he'd shot her with a rifle. Convinced me of the killing power of stone points.
His "Full Circle " is kinda hokey(  in spots but as far as showing primitive skills and such it can't be beat at least as far as I've seen.
There sure is alot of air around a squirrel...eeyup.

Watched it this morning also, I thought it was pretty interesting myself. Would love to see a show based solely on this stuff.

Thad's a good ole Georgia boy and is the guest speaker at the Traditional Bowhunters of Georgia banquet this weekend. Should be interesting.

For some, hunting is a pleasant way to spend a fall afternoon, for others it is who they are.
