I did once, but dont have pics. But what I did was used ash shafts, which have a fairly open grain. I stained them with golden oak, then put a thin coat of urethane on them and let dry. The finish soaked into the pores and left the grain pockets open, even tough the shaft was sealed. I then took dark walnut paste wipe on stain and wiped the shaft down with it. Then took a rag just slightly damp with mineral spirits and wiped the stain off the shaft. The dark paste stain remained in the open grain while the outer shaft was back to the golden oak color. Let dry for several days then finished with a few coats of clear urethane. Came out pretty good! Light golden shafts with dark bocote like grain.
