SE PA Fox Hunt
« on: January 02, 2012, 03:02:00 PM »
If any of my local brothers or sisters want to give fox hunting a try at night with their bows drop me a line.  I've killed a bunch at night with guns and some during the day with my recurve but never have I tried at night with the bow.  If anyone is interested drop me a pm.  I have the spots to hunt.

Night? Mike, you mean up past my bedtime like dead dark 30 night?

LOl... that would be a hoot...but OMG... I'd never stay awake for the ride home!   :)

And you need a "furtakers" license to shoot fox don'tcha?

I'm in Lehigh County and my fox spots are in Lehigh and Berks.  Yes, a furtakers license is required to kill fox.  I would like to do the hunt on a Friday or Saturday night.  We could start around 6 or 7 pm and hunt as long as folks are into it.  I usually hunt till around midnight but I'm flexible.  You are also welcome to use my .17 Rem. Fireball with night mounted lights and optics for any fox that hang up and won't come into bow range.

Doc Nock...you can stay at my place.  Make it a day...hunt anterless deer during the day and fox at night.  Win-Win!

How about we do the hunt on Saturday, January 22nd, starting at 7 PM.  That is the best day in January based on the moon phase of almost no moon and a very dark night.  I am available any Friday or Saturday night if that doesn't work.  Anyone who is serious just shoot me a pm and we can coordinate the fox hunt!

PS  If anyone has a 5C anterless tag and is interested, I have some spots we could hunt and do an afternoon deer hunt before the night fox hunt.

Fox hunt dates are set:

1/12 with Mmisciag
1/21 with Mike Brockner

If anyone want to join us you are very welcome!  I'm going to limit it to just these dates.

Very cool! I am looking forward to this. I need to practice shooting at a moving target! I guess I will hang a ball from a tree and swing it back and forth.

Mike Brockner is a good guy. Much better shot then I am.

See you soon,

Martin

I would like to thank Mike for a great hunt. I learned a lot tonight.

Tonight was not the best night to hunt fox. A little warm and foggy. Wind was not in our favor. Hard to see any good distance.

Mike was able to call in one fox but we only saw it briefly. Mike knows his stuff.

Can't wait to have a go at it on a better night.

Again, thanks Mike!

Martin
