Newfoundland Moose Hunt
« on: January 05, 2012, 12:07:00 PM »
I'm wanting to Moose hunt in Newfoundland and was wondering about an outfitter.  Since there are no over the counter tags available to nonresidents I have to go thru an outfitter.  Has any ventured here with traditional equipment that will share some info?

I went with Moose Valley Outfitters and killed a small bull but that was way back in 1997.  Newf is a gerat place to kill A moose but probably only an iffy place at best to kill a big moose.

Unless you are hung up on Newfie; I would seriously consider Eldon Jeandreau in Maine.

I hunted with tony tuck of grey river outfitters for woodland caribou back in 2004. It was a top notch operation and I would recommend them highly. They also do moose hunts.

Lots of good moose, drawing a tag though is like getting hitting lotto.  Joe

I have been talking to Tony Tuck about an upcoming hunt.  He appears to know what he is doing and is a very informative person.

I won't mention his incentive for choosing his service, but I have not seen any other outfitters doing it. You may want to check this out (fee/cost)

Owl's Nest lodge was really nice. Back in the late 90's though for Woodland Caribou, not moose. But saw a lot. Had one heck of an adventure!

I hunted Newfoundland in 2010 with Rays Hunting and Fishing Lodge. Our hunt started on Oct. 17 which was too late in the year. The rut was over and calling was impossible. I saw over 65 moose in 6 days and could not get close enough for a shot.

Rays is one great place to stay. We each had a king sized bed to sleep in and the meals were the best. I very highly recommend them and if I ever go back, it will be to Rays.

Please do a search on reviews before going with Owls Nest. A lot of hunters had issues with them in the last few years.

Good to know about Owl's nest Bill. I had a great time but that was long ago I know how that goes. I'll give Ray's a look into myself, I'd love to get back up there.

Do a search on Ironbound Outfitters. Fred Eichler did a show on it for caribou hunting but they offer moose hunts too.
