Weak or waaay too stiff?
« on: December 19, 2011, 12:08:00 AM »
I hate to involve everyone with my tuning issues but I cant seem to figure this one out.........

  TACKLE
Im shooting a Predator Hunter 60@28. My draw is 29in. Arrows are 30" Gold Tip Hunter Black 7595. I have a 100gr insert and a 125gr point. Also 3x4" feathers.

  RESULTS
Im bareshaft tuning. Two fletched shafts and two bare shafts. I consistantly group the fletched shafts together and the bareshafts together but about a foot to the right and usually about 8" low of the fleched shafts (the best i could get after playing with nocking point).

I have 175gr points and they seemed to act the same as the 125s. 100gr also acts the same. What should i do? I dont know if it is actually weak or if it is soo stiff that it is showing weak. What do you more exp. members think I should try next?

IMO you are way toooo stiff , try a  weaker bare shaft and see what it does for comparison .

If you take a trip over to O.L.Adcock web page and read down through his bow tuning page he has a great deal of info on arrow tuning and that will show you formulas for finding the right arrow, and i would also suggest getting the arrow tuning field points through 3 rivers, that will give you a range of tips from 100gr. through 250gr. which will also help when building a new shaft or find out spine problems with shafts that you already use, the bare shaft/fletched shaft test on O.L.Adcock page really helped me find out i was way over spine and with the adjustable point kit i got from 3 Rivers i can take a shaft and make them fit my set up perfect, i was using 2114 and after doing the test i found out i needed a 1916 so as you can see from my test i was way out of the bell curve of being in tune. Right now i am going to switch over to 2013's so i have a set full length with fletch and non fletched arrows and will keep shooting and trimming until i get the un-fletched and fletched hitting in the same spot and i have found that doing this test with BH it made my confidence level grow to where i have opened my kill range up to 30 yards, well i hope this helps out some, i have spent hours in the shop trying this with several bows if you need any more help let me know

I'm thinking you're way stiff. Once you cut a 75/95 you automatically stiffen it way up and 250 grains is not enough weight upmfront tom get it back in tune.

Try a 55/75 full length with the 100 grain insert and the 125 tip and see what happens might be just a little weak. If so then cut 1/8" off the arrow and shoot it again.
