Bear Green Razorheads
« on: January 13, 2012, 01:23:00 AM »
I just lost an auction on s---bay for 6 "vintage?" bear green razorheads. I'm sorry, I'm not paying over $25 per 6 when I can get 6 Zwickey Eskimos for the same price. Zwickeys have been around longer and are probably a better broadhead. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks sir I will keep that in mind. I have some old green razorheads that I hunt with. I also have some black razorheads that I bought in the late 1970s. I suspect that many of these "vintage" green razorheads on s---bay started life as black late 70s razorheads.

The "Green" Ravorhead was introduced in 1956 and was indeed influenced by the Zwickey..(Fred's first attempt at a broadhead was a modified Zwickey) It went through 4 minor changes from 1956 to 1964.. The 1964 is by far the most common.. They changed color in 1978 (I think) and became the "Super Razorhead basically the same head with a slightly chiseled tip..
I really doubt anyone is repainting them..
If you got beat out at that price I am guessing they were earlier than the 64's as they can be a bit tough to come up with in quantity.

I look for them at yard sales, whenever you see a box of old archery stuff, whether it was from a compound or trad bow you are likely to find a few bear Razorheads.

One of the perks of being an officer in the local archery club is looking at the past members list. I know most of the guys on the list and I ask the ones that dont hunt anymore if they have extra razorheads or other gear. Some guys have even offered to GIVE me some of their stuff!

Google Targeteers Sporting Goods Saddlebrook New Jersey. I was there a couple months ago. He has a bunch left. Glue ons. They are Gold however.
