.243 win for point wieght carbon arrow
« on: January 15, 2012, 06:04:00 PM »
Hello I'm excited to contribute. Have been spine testing arrows with dif weight point to find what tip weight+arrow spine my bow liked best. Well i bought a test kit of points up to 250gr but still didnt have total arrow weight where i wanted, so instead of ordering those 100gr brass inserts and waiting 3 days for them to arrive I found that a 6mm 105 gr hornady a max fits pretty snug inside a gold tip shaft shot some fletch glue on it and used a clening rod to push a foam earplug in behind it to hold it still while glue dried. Unless I'm wrong come tommorow I'll be testing up to 350gr point wieght's.

Smart move, hope the extra weight works out for you.

I have taken 40 gr lead .22 bullets, smushed them with pliers front to back till they were a snug fit, and 2 ton epoxied them behind the insert.  I dont know if fletch glue is up to the job.

Hoping the fletch glue holds up long enough to see if that arrow has enough spine for 325gr point wieght. Will get brass inserts for more permanent fix, but this got me testing sooner plus less shipping charges.

There was a article in TBM about using bullets to increase weight. It was pretty cool, id try it if i still shot carbon.

When you are shooting a .320 carbon out of a 55#-65# bow.

Thats what I have been doing. But I use epoxy and tissu paper instead of the foam ear plug . Works great and stays put even after hitting rocks.
