New String Material
« on: January 17, 2012, 02:36:00 PM »
Got a sample spool of the new 8190 from BCY today.  Looking for a couple of folks to do some testing.  My regular customers will be given preferance.  I just want opinions about the material.  I only have one small spool of OD Green right now, so I'll only be sending out a few.  Endless or flemish, your pick.  Only for bows rated for FF type materials.

8190 is the strongest and toughest string material to date, with the least stretch and creep.  The diameter is very small--about 25% smaller than 8125.  It's made from SK90 Dyneema--the strongest ever by far (Dynaflight '97 is SK75, Dynaflight 10 is SK78) with some GORE added to further increase durability.

This is the first material that I am comfortable making a "skinny" string with, since the risk of failure/damage is much less, and it has less stretch/creep than any previous material.  Still, with a small diameter string, you have much less room for adjustment, so keep that in mind.

I will not be installing silencers, and I prefer than anyone testing the string do some shooting before installing silencers, to get a true feel and idea of the string noise.

12 strands should be fine for most bows--that will be the same diameter as 9 strands of 8125.

Again, preferance will be given to my regulars, and in return for the string I need input.

Can't really say I'm a regular as I've only ordered a couple strings from you so far,(they're great strings, btw) and, if you are in need of testers, please keep me in mind!

I'm not a regular, but I need to buy a new string for one of my bows.  I'd be happy to test some out or pay for a new string.

I would be up to try one. Since purchasing your 'doin the twist' video a couple of years ago I have not ordered strings, but have played with many of the newer materials.

Well, obviously I want to give my regulars first shot at it because they are my regulars.  I only have one small spool to tinker with right now.  On top of being limited with material, I'm limited with time (have to keep my orders filled).  Wish I had the time and money to send out freebies to everyone interested, but unfortunatley I can't swing that.

Those of you who fit the bill send me an e-mail or p.m.--you know what I need from you.  I'll let you know when I expect to ship.

Once I get some feedback and do some tinkering myself, I'll post about it.

Thanks for the feedback--think we got it covered now.  I'll try to get back to you soon, but I will be out of town for the weekend so it may be next week before I can nail it all down.  Right now I'm focusing on catching up on current orders before trying out the new stuff, but we'll get on it soon.

It's on the BCY site now, so I figure it's available to the public.

LBR, do you have the specs (strand diameter) of the 8190.  I switched to dynaflight 10 from dynaflight 97 a little over a year ago.  I am very interested in the 8190.  How many strands of the 8190 would equal 12 strands of dynaflight 10.  I am very happy with the dynaflight 10, but if this is that much better I would like to try it.  The dynaflight 10 changes very little once it is shot in.  I know the specs are better on the 8190 but will we be able to tell a difference?  The smaller strands should make for a very smooth looking string.

LBR would you happen to know what the diameter of the 8190 is?
