Carbon Shafts and weed eater line....New Discovery

I have read many posts about increasing weight in arrows and weight forward being the way to go. I have been tinkering quite a while trying to figure out what set up shoots best for my bow. (black widow PCH, 47lbs @ 28 in, 8 1/4 brace height) (CE 250 heritage sahfts, 100gr inserts , 140 tips) I have not been satisfied with how my arrows shoot or sound with the weed eather line in them. ( a single strand cut to fit from the end of the insert to the very end of the inside of the nock).

While playing around in the basement this morning, I tried several ways to "quiet" the line as well as increase its weight towards to the front of the arrow....after several failed attempts....i took a strand of line....doubled it over....placed the two loose ends into the nock end of the arrow and evenly fed the line into the arrow. Once the line crimped at the end, i gave it a little nudge. I then took a cleaning rod for my .22 and lightly pushed the line down into the arrow until i felt the two ends touch the insert. The pressure from the cimped end of the line holds it in place.

My arrows fly  like they never have. They are MUCH more quiet and appear to have about another inch or so of penetration more than they did before.

This is probably nothing new to most of you... just thought i would post my discovery to help others out who were having the same problem i was.

I will watch this post. I have been tuning my arrows with 200gr and 225gr tips. Worked great at 10 yds but not @ 20 yds. They shot consistently too low. I'm looking for other arrow weight options, too.

I have done that before also.  However if doubling the strings is too much weight, try melting the ends with a lighter. It will make a large ball on each end.  Cut the string long so a single strand S's and fills the shaft so it will not make noise when shot.  Cram it in with the nock to make it all tight.

It is a poor man's weight tube.

It does work well.

If you know how much line you need rather it be 2-3 20" pieces or 1 30" piece why not just rub some glue on it like silicon or epoxy before seating it. Seems like it would solve the rattling/noise issue.

I use electrical tape and place my weedeater line in the middle of a strip and fold the tape over it.  Doesn't rattle one bit.

Two strings of the heaviest weed eater line I can find, totally wrapped in grey duct tape....heavy and real quiet....

Use to do it years ago. When my nocks would pop out at 3D shoots I gave it up. Good Luck with it.
