Loose Nocks
« on: February 06, 2012, 08:51:00 PM »
I was wondering if anyone else ever ran into this problem.  I just bought a new dozen arrows (Carbon Express Heritage 150s) and set them up the same as the previous batch.  Went to the club to shoot and lets say I wasn't on top of my game.  Just for kicks I shot thru paper and was a little surprised at the tear. The tear was a 1 1/2" high and a little left.  Tried everything but could not get the tear out.  Some of you may know where this is going but bear with me.  I grabbed one of the older arrows and got a perfect hole and also noticed that the older nocks were tighter on the string.  The newer nocks were loose enough to easily slide on the serving. I switched the old nocks to the new arrows and got the perfect holes with the new arrows.  I'm shooting three under with a second string nock below. Guess there was enough room for the arrow to slide down the string after release and kick up off the shelf.  I'll also add that the bow was considerably quieter after this.  Live and learn.

Do a double serve nock point(one above and one below).

I don't like loose nocks. This is why I special attention to my serving. If the nocks start to get loose, the serving gets replaced or I order a new bowstring.

Thanks for the responses.  I do have two nocks, one above and one below but leave enough space that the knock doesn't bind with the string angle.  I guess with a loose knock, there is enough room to slide and cause problems.  Can't believe the difference in the sound of the bow with the tight knocks.
