Brace height for a Firefly longbow?
« on: February 10, 2012, 09:45:00 PM »
I just picked up a beautiful Firefly longbow from Action Jackson on this site (thanks for a great deal Jack!) I want to make sure that I have the correct brace height set. Thanks!

Just emailed Jim about this subject earlier this week...both Jim and Tim (braveheart) recommend 6-3/4".  But I was also told this was a starting point.

Thanks,

Josh

I have run them 6 3/4" and up to about 7 1/4" or so.  I liked the higher end of that on two of the three I have had. One liked the low end best.

I have taken both of mine down to 5 1/2 inches and they are still quiet and they are flat out fast. I generally hunt with 7" of brace.

I've found my firefly to be the least touchy of my bows when it comes to brace height.  That said, I keep mine at 6 3/4".

I emailed Jim Jones and among other things brace height was one of the questions I asked. Here is his answer verbatim:

Question b: I recommend a brace of 7" + or - 1/4". Brace height is a tuning issue for each bow/shooter and still may be higher or lower than what I recommend. Everybody tunes their bows different.

Mark

It seems that 7" is working well for one set of limbs and 71/4" is better for the other set. Thank to all for the help.
