Damm nice boot, but that is the one I had big issues with the top of boot always slapping my calf when stalking. Little noisy for me. Guess if your calf fits tight for your size it might be fine for you.

I wear Cabela's snake boots all turkey season and for anything i do in the woods all summer.  I was very suprised how light and comfortable they were.  Hope i never get to find out if they stop fangs though!!

Today went to the local boot shop and tried on serveral different pairs of chippewa boots and the arch support was very uncomfortable to my feet, don't think I'd last a day with them hiking. Maybe just me but I'd definately try them on before I'd order/buy them. Think I'll go with my danner hunting boots and the snake proof gaiters or chaps.

I like the Redhead zip up snake books. RC had mentioned he liked them so I got me a pair. On my second pair now. If you keep your eyes open you can sometimes catch them on sale for $89.00 ....

Any pair of boots with decently thick leather will be fine.  Guys at snake roundups in west TX usually just wear cowboy boots.

I hunted in some Chippewa for 8 seasons until they finally started leaking ever so slightly.

I now have some Danner Pronghorns.  VERY comfortable but disappointed when I realized they were made in China.  Just wasn't thinking that "Danner" boots would be made in China.

I live in rattle snake country and have never owned a pair of snake boots. Im not saying you shouldnt have a pair I just think they are way to hot and bothersome. If your stalking through brush and cactus its a good idea to have some on. But if your just walking to a stand then I think you can do with out them. I will say that Chippewa is a very popular boot in my area.

^-- what JimB said... Pretty much any leather boot will stop a snake bite. Their teeth are VERY fragile and break easy. Think like a glass syringe needle. Maybe get some gaiters on top of your favorite hunting boots. Snake gaiters or otherwise. Or just watch were you tread.

I came across an article the other day that said in the USA there are hundreds of snake bites each year with approx. 8 deaths. It did go on to say that if bitten the medical bills were on average $20,000...so though not generally fatal a pretty good hit to the pocket book.  Good to see feedback on the good leather boots generally being sufficient to stop the fangs. It seems from those who have posted that good leather boots with a set of turtle skin snake gaiters is good protection.

I totally - but respectfully - disagree with the notion that because snake boots are hot and/or uncomfortable that you can just be careful where you step and will be o.k. Same with the idea of any leather boot being all right due to many of the really light weight boots available, which I just don't think will turn a bite. I have related a couple of times on the Gang that I stepped on a copperhead a couple of years ago and was very nearly bitten.  Prior to that time I was in total agreement that caution was a sufficient safeguard, but that incident nearly turned into a "trouser browning experience". It really scared me, and I ain't afraid of much in our Georgia woods. Now I tell all my friends to wear good snake boots or chaps. My Cabela's work fine, but in really hot weather, I will some times pack in a pair of light and comfortable slip on shoes and wear them in the stand, using the less comfortable boots only when walking to or from the stand. For you stalkers, I still strongly urge you to wear quality snake proof boots. I saw a really convincing demo of Rocky boots not long ago. Part of my great concern about this relates to diabetes. If you have it, as I do, and get bitten, you may very likely lose a leg. Friends be safe and take no chances.

Tony Llama, Larry Mahan and Luchese come to mind. Personally I prefer ostrich or gator to snake skin.   :knothead:    :bigsmyl:    :goldtooth:
