Way back when in the late 60's I used to go hunting with a small pack pack (if any) with nothing in it. I guess this was when I was young and dumb.........

I picked up my present back pack and almost dislocated my shoulder due to the weight, smile.  In deciding what to put back in I am wondering what you folks take with you on a day long hunt.

Any ideas would be great.

Food, water,rain gear,binos,extra socks.knife, Thats all i take.

Depends on where/what I am hunting. Less is more, but sometimes more is necessary.

Ten essentials.  Usually no more.  Weather dependent.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, game bags, two forms of fire starters, an extra compass and bow string, couple of small flashlights, and/or one flashlight and one headlamp, parachute cord for hanging meat, couple of large plastic garbage bags (to use as rain gear or overnight shelter), binos, pocket camera.  Probably a few other things, but that's most of it.

I try to be light for short hunts,but in the truck I have more than needed.
When I hunt the wilderness in the Rokies I carry everything that make me almost confortable to spend the night away from my camp.

Other than my extra clothes.  I normally have a bottle of water, firestarter, knife, flashlight, headlamp, camera, folding saw, 25' paracord, windchecker and enough food to get me through the day.

Only things I do different for an extended hunt is add a backpackers tent, little dried food and replace a water bottle with a water filter.

Mystery Ranch! I can't say enough good about it. I wear it all day sometimes on scouting trips - no fatigue.

I have a Saddle Peak. It's only day pack capacity, but I have strapped a lock on stand to the back, and  it carries so nice. Does everything I ask of it and I forget I'm wearing it even when fully loaded. I have not found anything I need to carry that I can't fit in it or strap to it. Lots of options.

I typically carry the following
Otterbox 2000 with assorted small stuff, lighter, extra knife, etc.
2 bottles of water
couple of clif bars
gloves
light jacket
extra socks
two bandanas
compass
GPS
beanie hat
sheath knife
22" Machete
Toilet Paper
sunglasses hard case

If I'm hunting I also carry a stand or stool, and extra tab, etc.

All the above is in my pack or strapped to it.
