Has anyone owned/shot both? The takedowns look pretty similiar. What were your thoughts on them?

Thanks

Both designs were influenced by Jim Brackenbury, but both bowyers have put their own refinements/improvements into the bows.
I owned a nice WW,  it was smooth and quiet,  but I didn't care for the 64" length so I traded it.
I shot a Stalker only a handful of times at the Kzoo show last year.  I remember it being fast and the draw to me was unique.  When the limbs opened up at full draw it kinda of had a feel of the break over on a compound.  I liked it.

I have a 60" Wes Wallace TD. Love the way it shoots, and looks. Wes is a great guy and stands behind his products. Worth giving him a look!

Most of the bowyers around here are great guys that stand behind their products.  :D  Even though you asked for shooters/owners of BOTH bows, I will try to keep this a leveled post by saying South Cox of Stalker Recurves is a great guy to do business with and his bows are outstanding. I have a Surge recurve and the Hybrid riser with both longbow and Static Tip recurve limbs. Great shooters as well. Check out the Hope and Faith posts at the top of Powwow and hear what many of our members think of South's products.

They both look like good bows but ive only owned a wes wallace. Id shoot either bow. I think Wes is a great guy, but trad archery needs both of them. I will own both.

Own both,
Wallace bow has wider limbs and less deflex. The Stalker is smoother drawing w/ same legnth limbs but the Stalker's limb tips are more prone to twisting.I prefer the Stalkers grip and seems to have less vibration at the shot.
I'm shooting 60'' bows in the 60+ lbs range.

I've owned a total of 3 WW Mentors but I am down to just one now.  Yup, it's "the one". It's my go to bow.

The Stalker: I saw the flyer last year, and I tried the Striker model at 2011 Comptons Shoot, but, well..............
I'm not opposed to giving the Stalker line another chance. The one I tried seemed very "squared off" and not smooth on the edges.  In other words, not comfortable.  Others in my group tried it, and it felt the same to them. Like I said, I will try the Stalker again... maybe it was just "that one".  Yes, the flyer looked great!

I won the Stalker "name the longbow" contest last year and got one of the 3 piece take down longbows.....the Tracker  model. I am a recurve shooter but this little longbow shoots right alongside my hi tech DAS recurve with updated Border limbs. I like it a lot, it is beautiful, is fast, accurate and is all dialed in for this Spring's turkeys. If the recurves are anywhere near the performance of the Tracker they must be one sweet shooting machines. I don't think you can go wrong with a Stalker.

David,

Thanks for the feedback, I always appreciate candid, constructive feedback from my customers or potential customers.  Earlier in my bow building, I was really focused on the visual lines of my bows and felt the harder lines helped accentuate them more. After getting feedback from some of my customers, that was similar to David's, I started rounding and softening the edges more in all of the areas where your hands and fingers would touch while carrying the bow. I was relieved to find that I wasn't compromising the look I was after, and thanks to some customer feedback, have a grip that is more comfortable.  In the batch of bows that was back there at Compton's last year was a few of the "older" handles. I will take care of that so that in the future, you will be testing only what I am currently producing. Again, thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the update South and explaining how you use customer feedback to meet demands. I'm shooting these Static Tip Limbs a lot and really like them. With that great grip, it is a great combination!

No doubt they are both good bows, and both great to work with. Neither bow would steer you wrong.
