meniers disease and treestand hunting
«

I was lucky enough to find out what was causing my problems over the past 2-3 years now while trying to get it under control i wondered how many others have it and still get into a treestand. I did it the last few seasons but was very nervous about it. Made it through without incident. Bill

I don't know if I'd risk it. I sure wouldn't want to be up in a tree and have my sense of balance go out of whack. You can still get hurt from a fall, even if you are strapped in. How would you even climb down, or right yourself if you did tumble out? Using a treestand is dangerous enough, without having inner ear issues.
You might find, as I did, that hunting from the ground is just as much, or more exciting.

I don't know exactly what meniers disease is, but I agree with looper. Hunting from the ground IS more exciting and much more satisfying than hunting from a tree. It's a lot harder, but being eye-ball to eye-ball with your prey is a rush that can't be duplicated.

Absolutely isn't worth it unless you have it totally under control.

I would agree with those that have posted so far. I don't have it, but have a friend that does, and have been there when she had an episode... definately not something you would want to have happen to you in a treestand!

DON'T DO IT. I have it, and have not been in a tree for over 4 years now. The last time I was, I lost the bottom of my climber from under my feet, and had to jump down, which in this case was only about 8 feet from the bottom of my feet to the ground.
The higher I went that morning, the worst things got. And especially if you have a wind and things blowing around, you are in for one aweful ride.
Again.....DON'T DO IT

If you do use a harness and fall arrest system when going green up, sitting in and climbing down.

I have had it bad. Mayo clinic and a couple of the best Drs. in the country. 12 years now. Went through lots of tx including destructive injections.
I will not tell you what to do for ONE REASON:
Meniere's Disease is VERY individual. It is really a diagnosis based on a particular set of symptoms. Its episodic onset is also very individual. There can be a variety of triggers, varied degree of symptoms, and it is typically progressive- which means the symptoms will gradually change.
I am a survivor, but it is a difficult disease. The good news, most people can get the vertigo resolved, it just depends on how far you have to go into invasive tx. Anxiety and depression can go with it too- so treat that if you need to; just part of the deal for many.
I would tell you to NOT settle for the typical ENT but go to a Meniere's specialist. It makes a big difference.
Blessings
Dan

Thanks to all that have responded. Dan like you said it is a very individual disease. At first I thought I was never going to get a handle on this thing. Yes it can get you down emotionally. As of now I have not had an attack since oct, i just have the crazy ringing in my ears, like cicadas on steroids. I guess I will be grounded until further notice. Thanks

From all accounts I've heard this sounds like a horrible disease. I would invest in some pop up blinds or build some natural blinds.
I wish you a speedy recovery and good health.
Scott.
