Something has clicked!
« on: February 25, 2012, 09:55:00 PM »
For whatever reason, my shooting has improved dramatically over the past 2-3 weeks.
Prior to then, I really only felt confident out to about 17 yards.  However, over the past few outings, I've become confiden out to almost 25 yards.  Now if my broadhead sharpening abilities would only peak...LOL
Have any of you experienced something similar?

Feels perty awesome when you find your grove. Although it makes the off days even worse. I've had to ease up on my shooting cause of shoulder pain...but everything is starting to click now.

Congrats on your improved shootong!

Awesome is right!  Really gaining confidence.  Considering turkey hunting with a bow for the first time this spring.
Now the work to maintain this surge...that'll be fun!

Yep, shot my first woods at a 3 d shoot last week. Sad thing is now I have a pile of fmj's that are cluttering up the house. Sure does feel good though....just when you think you had it figured out. Congrats Ken.

Now if you can figure out what made you have that confidence,  that "click", or switch turned on. When you do have that off day you can sit back and tell yourself what you might be doing wrong and fix it. I have been shooting seriously now for 4 or 5 years and still seem to find new things to work on or fine tune in my form or shootin sequence. My only advice is, you mentioned turkey hunting this year and I say go for it but if things don't work out during a hunt be sure to learn from it and go for it again. Don't lose confidence, hunting situations can be a lot different than backyard shooting. I have found myself gaining confidence at missing all the squirrels I did this past year deer hunting, or maybe it's hope! It just gets better and there is nothing wrong with gaining confidence. Keep it up, feels good HUH!!!

There are days when my "cold shot" is deadly. Then are days when my cold shots(s) are in the kill zone but not a real tight group. Then there are days it takes 100 shots to warm up. The real frustration are the times when good groups are laced with fliers that sometimes miss the target altogether!!
My main consistency seems to be that I can hit the kill zone out to 20 yards 95% of the time from most angles. That is what keeps me at the target shooting most afternoons.

My accuracy has much improved over the last few weeks, too, when I switched from marathon arrow flingin'as fast as I could nock an arrow to just an hour per session, concentrating on a smooth release and follow through."Quality over quantity".As an added bonus,my stff, sore and numb fingers are slowly returning to normal:)

Yes mostly in the last few weeks. I went to the range recently and focused on a nice anchor and that was all I focused on. Sweet arrows every time and I stayed at 12-20 yards. Then a few days after that, I went roving and hit everything I shot at with distances reaching almost 30 yards. Included in the mix,a broken arrow I stuck into the ground and then hit it at 15 yards. I have really been enjoying myself the last few weeks, and the best part is that I understand what is going on with the shooting.
