I love this old ugly duckling bow

I recently bought an old Ben Pearson Stallion 45# bow of of the fleabay. Its beat up and finish is flaking off the riser. There are stress lines in the limbs and it has an old Bear leather rest with bristles on it. I bought it to use for bowfishing. This bow is a pleasure to shoot. Its quiet and I can stack arrows out to 15 yards. I dont know if its the drop in draw weight, the added bow length or the rest or a combination of all of them but I can shoot it better and longer than the Browning Nomad 51# draw that I shoot off the shelf with. I bought the Browning in the classifieds here in December. I have noticed the Browning wears me down pretty quick. It seems like I can get about a dozen good shots off and then my groups start to open up.
It almost seems ashame to take the Stallion out and get fish guts and slime all over it here pretty soon

Scott, I would fill the stress lines with super glue, sand the finish off and shoot a couple coats of Deft or other finish on it. Then you won't want to get fish guts on it, but if you do, they will wipe off easy :D . Don

Scott, Congratulations on your find. I recently purchased an old beat up Ben Pearson Colt and cleaned it up as Don described, tru oil also works good as a finish. These are some great shooting bows.

Expect my bows to shoot straight with authority & confidence. Looks are secondary. Breathe some new life into that Pearson.

You can stack arrows out to 40 yards with it if you pactice enough. Those old pearsons with them long risers are hard to beat. You're lucky to have one.

I bought it about a week and a half ago. Were you looking at it? It was listed without a string but I contacted the seller and told him if he threw in a string I would buy it now.
At 10:30 last night I was shooting from my dining room out the patio door on to the porch. It was only a 25 foot shot but it was still fun. The neighbors must love me.

The BP Stallion is a great, underated bow. Killed my first recurve deer with one quite a few years ago. Sounds like a good candidate for a refinish. Good luck with it!
