RW feathers left jig.

I shoot a Maddog MUTT 45@28" with 30 inch Goldtip 5575 with 225 points.  I fletched them with 4" RW feathers and my jig is left clamp offset.  Should I change how I fletch?  Arrow seem to fly good.  Any ideas?

you need some left wing feathers for your left wing jig.

You either need to get left wing feathers or a right wing jig.

The difference may depend on whether you use a straight or helical clamp, and where the feather is in relation to the nock, and if it is making full contact. RW should be used in RW jig, for best results, so the cup in the feather is the surface that catches the air. This is important for rotation in flight.

An air craft wing is designed to lift, same principle with a feather, the air travels over both surfaces. It is more aerodynamic. Plastic vanes which are straight can be used with either jig, but the nock receiver is often different.

If you use a Bitzenburger, they have different nock receivers for straight and helical, but the standard one will work. I prefer the RW receiver with the RW Jig and LW with LW Jig for offsetting the feather at the rear, in relation to the nock index. The feather starts to the left of the index and goes the same distance to the right. Look natural, flies and wears better.

Feathers will not conform to arrow very good so they will not stick to great. Also going to be rather noisy. Get the feathers or clamp to match up.

I use a straight offset fletch and see no difference in RW or LW feathers as far as performance. I have mixed RW and LW on the same arrow, and they flew good. Am I just luck like that????????????

A straight clamp is both RW and LW and a RW feather should be offest to the right in that clamp. It would work fine.

Helical clamps come in RW or LW and you would need a RW.

James, you are indeed lucky. The last time I saw someone do that the arrow flew around in a big circle and he had to dodge it.

Using both wings on the same feather upsets the universe and the arrow will usually fold into another dimension.

Either way, if it flew good I'd say you should go get a lottery ticket, 'cause that was a lucky day.

I would just get left wing feathers, unless you have bunches of right wings.

Do yourself a favor and save the money of a new jig.Just buy left wing feathers.There will be NO difference in arrow flight.On the other hand you told us that with your left clamp and your right wing feathers you have a good arrow flight.I dont know how you did it but if it works why change it?

Left wing and right wing together just make your arrow spin both ways. No big deal.


Keep the left wing jig. SOMEBODY has to use all the feathers from all those turkeys walking around with one bare wing.
