I had to weigh the following factors when considering some rain gear last year:
1. How frequently will I use it? Considering I don't really enjoy hunting in the rain, I'd like it just in case I'd NEED it.
2. Cost! (This relates to the few times I expect to use it.)
3. I'd prefer a traditional camo pattern.
4. Is it somewhat packable? I compromised here because I didn't like the "flimsiness" of the stuff that packs down to the size of a water bottle.
I settled on the Cabela's "
Dry Plus Rain Suede Evolution " parka and pants, in the "brown Outfitter" camo, in a size larger than normal to fit over my wool or other insulating layer. Both pieces stuff inside out into their own pockets and will fit in my pack fairly compactly. I was able to get both the parka and pants for $140 on sale last fall.
