Removing Snakeskins from Limbs??
« on: March 10, 2012, 08:40:00 AM »
I recently bought  a set of ILF limbs that have snakeskins on them, I would like to remove the skins (they are very dark and do not show up on my black limbs.) The man that I bought them from told me that he used Titebond to glue them on. Is there any way to remove without lots of sanding? maybe some kind of paint remover?

I would personally avoid putting a chemical stripper on the limbs. It could do some rel damage to the limb materials.

If you know who did the skins get in touch.  Some people scruff up the glass too much before gluing.  It would be a shame to remove the skins and find the glass really scruffed.

There is nothing i know of that will touch tite bond except sand paper.

There is no way to do this without refinishing the limbs, putting more skins on it, or having them cammo dipped.  kirk

I agree with kirkll.  Will need to do some sanding, and refinish, though not a lot of sanding.  I usually work the edge of a razor blade under the skin and then, keeping the blade angled, run it down the limb under the skin, shaving off the entire skin.  Then a little fine sandpaper on a block will clean up the residue and prepare the back of the limbs for refinishing.  Good luck.

sanding after scraping....   I only use wood glue on my skins and then seal after dry....then it only takes warm water to clean them off.

good luck....

Thanks for all of the input, it looks like I will be doing some sanding!
