I used regular titebond 3 glue so I do not believe it is oily. It is nowhere like teak, as in I did not have to wipe it down with Acetone. I just cut it, glued it and clamped it. I used waterbased wood floor finish over it, and it dried at the same rate as it dried on the douglas fir shaft. Others might have a better educated answer, I tend to give a "Non-Scientific Hillbilly Gear Test Rating" when I do things. In other words, I do something and see if it works. If it does I go with it. If it does not, I try something different.
