Hybrid Longbow Question

I am lifelong recurve shooter and am considering trying a hybrid type longbow like a Pronghorn or Treestick. I have shot a Hill Big 5 and would like to know how the Pronghorn or Treestick would compare for how to grip the bow and hand shock? Is it easier to make the switch from recurve to hybrid type longbow or does it not make a difference. For what it is worth I also shoot 3 under if that matters.

Those two are IMHO are some of the very best.

Tim (treestick) for sure will build you the grip you want...... Within reason and safety

Going to a modern hybrid-Treestick, Sasquatch, ACS or the one that Sixby makes I doubt you would notice much difference, if any.
Hill bows are different.

I have shot recurves longbows and hybrids. the hybrids are by far my favorite. I actually like the lower wrist grip but still want a little palm swell.

The grips are all available from a high grip to a low grip with palm swella and thumb grip with one of my bows. You should have no problem transitioning from a recurve to one of these except with the surprise you will have at the speed and smoothness of this type of bow.

All of the bows that Bjorn mentioned are really good examples . I would check the availability of grip styles with each bowyer to see if they can accomodate you. Other than that read the reports on the different threads from individual owners. That is probably the best referances.

The grip on the Stalker hybrid longbow that South Cox makes is another that is easy to switch to from a recurve. What is great about it also is the hybrid riser can also be fitted with his smooth Static Tip Limbs if you decide to stay in touch with your recurve side!      :D

The hybrids I have owned have been excellent and the transition was smooth primarily due to the grip configuaration being a personal match.

I started out with a recurve (55 years ago, and then when I started shooting again 3 years ago). From there to hybrids (Lost Creek and Centaur) and now I'm trying to learn to love classic D type bows. I have to say the hybrids have all the speed of the recurve, most of the smooth draw and the grips (medium suit me just fine). I think if I acquire a D type longbow with a mild, locator grip, I will have no trouble with the D bow either. Currently working with a nice Mohawk (borrowed, unfortunately) that is quiet and smooth. The draw weight is fairly linear, but doesn't have the same "easing up" up of the recurves or hybrids as I approach anchor. No problem, but I will have to shoot 5# less D type bow than recurve or hybrid. Ask me to pick a favorite and I'd be in a real pinch. The D bow is more accurate for me, but the others easier to draw with a tad more speed. Love em all!

Pronghorn, Morrison, Thunderstick any R/D longbow will exceed your expectations.

The Sasquatch riser design will accommodate either recurve or Hybrid long bow limbs. The only difference is the feel of the draw, and the hybrid limbs are a bit faster than the recurve limbs.

Shoot ability is all in fitting the grip and the right pressure point to your shooting style.

I know you asked about information for a couple of specific bows, but you should talk to and try a Dan Toelke bow.  In my opinion, they are the quietest and smoothest bows for me.

For what your asking I'd go with either   The Fedora
Extreme or  the One by SIXBY  .

Hybrids can be had in about any grip configuration you desire. With a well designed one, hand shock is not an issue.

Shoot before you buy. Choices are vast. Grips are different for sure. What works for one, will not necessarily work with another. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you are the one who needs to be satisfied. Buy used and go from there until you find exactly what your looking for. This will save you a lot of money and frustration. Been there, done that.

I am now shooting a Hybrid Longbow from Zipper, it is a SXT with Longbow limbs and I am in love. I may never buy anaother Recurve. Give Zipper a look, you will not be sorry!!!
