MO Turkeys heating up!
« on: March 13, 2012, 04:45:00 PM »
For the last 4 days the birds have been giving me & the wife & kids quite a show! The big Toms are struting & fighting while the Jakes hang back & learn.
When the hens move there taking the boys right with them. I've seen this act before & by the time our season opened it was all over & the hunting was tuff to say the least!
I hope things stay good, at least through the first week of the season?

Hey, Ryan! I live just 3 miles west of Fair Grove and I heard my first tom gobble this past Saturday. I went out to get the paper and my dogs started barking at me. Made an old longbeard shock gobble one time down behind the house. Sure got me excited!

I'm about 3 miles east of Fair Grove Darren. We should do some shooting or something sometime.

Yep, Ryan, strutting and gobbling here too. The last week might be sorta ok if the hens go to set ewggs.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I just came in from roosting birds.21 roosted less than 700 yards from my door step. One of them is a very cool looking smoke faze hen and 4 big strutters. The rest of them are jakes and hens.Unfortunately our season does not open until April 23rd.  :banghead:  Its going to be a long month and a half.

It's bamboo backed bow, cane arrows, Gorilla blind, and big ol' toms this year in SW Missouri. I'm just a little anxious!

If it stays like this I'm wondering if the season will be a bust. Way too late. Neighbor around Steelville said they were gobbling last weekend down that way.

I heard 4 gobbling yesterday morning behind my house in Southern Illinois. Weather people say spring is here now.
