New (to me) Green Mountain Longbow
« on: March 14, 2012, 08:35:00 AM »
Bought a 66" 56#@28 GML with a slight locator grip from Near Miss.  It is my new favorite bow.  Good looking, good shooting and just feel right when carrying and when at full draw.

I am making my spring summer arrow supply and decided that while I thought the arrows would be matched since it is in the range of most of my other bows, I should run a bare shaft test.  No changes needed.  The three feathered shafts and three bareshafts were intermixed and all at the same angle in the target.  And they looked that way out to thirty yards.  Of course I had to shoot the bareshafts lower to make up for the decreased drag.

Interestingly enough I also learned something.  At thirty yards I had a bad release. The bare shaft ended up three feet off target.  I suspect that if it had feathers it may have ended up no more than a foot or so off.  I may leave a few shafts bare just to gage my form with.

I've got a Green Mountain in Red Cedar. It's an awesome bow, sadly it's too heavy for my elbow. I vacillate between having the weight reduced or selling it. It's a sweet bow though.

Congrats on yours!
