New To Me EagleWing Talon II
« on: March 15, 2012, 06:44:00 PM »
I recently purchased an EagleWing Talon II T/D recurve from the classifieds.  I was attracted by the riser, it's dark with Wenge and a black Phenolic I-beam.  The limbs are carbon-foam-carbon with static tips.  It's 60" and 52#@28".

I picked the Talon II up at the PO this morning. I took it to The Archery Shop, assembled it and shot it on and off for an hour and a half.

I wish I could figure out how to take pics that would show the beautiful grain in the riser. The Wenge reminds me of the Ziricote that Ric Anderson used to build a Marriah Thermal and the Macassar Ebony I've had in several other bows I've owned.

The bow is the smoothest, quietest and most accurate shooting bow I've ever owned. The grip is absolutely amazing. I can't grip it wrong. It is the most comfortable and repeatable grip I've ever had and it puts the shelf right down on the top of my hand just like a well made bow should.

Steve did an amazing job in building the bow.  Below are some pics taken by Glenn and that he emailed to me.

Wow!  I really like that.  The "dark archer" look.  It's traditional enough for me.  :jumper:

Nice find sir.

My Zipper named Black Beauty is all wenge. Works well for me. Definitely a bow blind candidate!

Ohhhh, that's nice.....

Do you mind posting another pic of the grip?  I like chunky handles and that one looks comfy.

Do you mind posting another pic of the grip? I like chunky handles and that one looks comfy.

Each grip is individually shaped to a tracing of the customers hand. In this case the hand was pretty much medium size. Pictures can be decieving but the grip discription of chunky dosn't fit that bow. I believe if you look at the pic of the entire bow that camera distortion is less and it more accurately dipicts the actual grip size. I can build the grip to fit what you like though.

Bill, I couldn't get any really good pics that showed the color in the wood either. The browns just don't seem to want to show up except in person but that wenge looks really good in person. A lot of nice brown figure in it.

Thanks for the nice review and God bless you all, Steve

Steve,

I know the bow was made based on an outline of Glenn's left hand, but, it couldn't fit my hand any better had it been based on an outline of my hand.  I don't know how to describe it, but the grip is unique in design and it's like it wraps around my hand, rather than my hand wrap around the grip.  It doesn't make sense, I suppose, but that's how it feels to me.

From the angle it looks like a pretty full palm. That's what I was referring too.

I'm going to take some pics outdoors of the riser.  I'll take full length views from the window side, the front, the off window side and the belly.  Then I'll repeat the pics up close to give views of the grip.

I really like the construction of the limbs onto the riser.  Very nice lines.  It appears to be carbon on the back, what about the rest of the limb?

Well, no pics for the turkey hunting adventure.  In fact, there wasn't a turkey hunting adventure.  I decided to stay home and put another coat of paint on our garage doors.

I will get out early next week, hopefully!
