I got the new Grizzly 140's from Bill at KaZoo. I used my KME broadhead sharpener and had mine sharp in a lot less time then that! Like Bill said, you don't have to sharpen the entire bevel, just the edge. These sharpened SO much easier for me than the old stlye Grizzlys. Looking forward to getting my Kodiaks!

Maybe I will try the KME as my Lansky Extra Course 120 is grinding the edge but after 80 strokes still not close to sharp.  I will either get it right or grind the whole damn thing down to ferrule trying. LMAO

right.    :)
Brock, the beauty of the KME knife sharpener is that it is infinitely adjustible to match whatever the blade angle is.Blade angles change depending on how wide the blade is and how it is positioned in the clamp.

I used to sharpen Grizzlies on the KME knife sharpener but have switched to the KME broadhead sharpener. Both do an excellent job but I think I've worked out a system that makes it go faster, using the broadhead sharpener.

I expect to have some new 200 Kodiaks in my hand tomorrow and it sounds like they will be way easier to sharpen than what I have become accustomed to.

This is the "How To" I did on using the broadhead sharpener.http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=000115You don't even have to have stones. You can use just wet or dry sand paper laid on a flat, hard surface like glass, plate steel or smooth, ceramic tile.

You are fighting a sharpener that is a slightly different in angle and you will kill yourself before you get enough metal off with stones. That is some hard steel.Good luck with them.

Brock, These heads have never been advertised as ready to hunt. The 25 degree bevel is established.IF you want them KME sharp that is an option.
The spots you are talking about is a combination of oil and likely some paint. These heads are sent to us from KME oiled so they dont rust. They come in loose in a box so there is bound to be some paint residue in the oil.
The reason there was no literature in the package is because the art work was not in from the printers when the heads arrived. Rather than drag this out another week for a piece of cardboard that will be thrown away. I thought it better to send the preorder heads with out the art work.
For the sharpening. I do not try to hone the length of the 25 degree angle. I only hone the cutting edge. No need to hone the full length of the angle. The 25 degree angle is there to make the head turn going through tissue but it is only the very edge that is important for the cutting.
Bill

p.s. The artwork is here now.

JimB can you re-do that link for your how-to. I'd like to check that out! Good idea Bill to send those out right away with the the extra packaging. Thanks for expediting the shipping. We(me) are an impatient bunch!

Brock

1. take a black marker and color the silver grind completely.

2. adjust your sharpener so it just takes the color off the cutting edge not the entire grind surface you just made black with the marker.

Caleb, you won't need the file to sharpen the new ones. The angle is pre-ground at KME. They will just need a few strokes on the edge with a medium and fine stone of some sort.

thats awesome. I will be sitting down with 6 of them this afternoon. I did notice right out of the pack they have a foil edge on them. I have a soft stone I will try first and see how they do.

thanks!

thanks all...yeah I was trying to sharpen with same 25* angle as blade and not got anywhere.  I am going to raise my angle and see how that goes...to 30* and see what happens.

I have done nearly 100 strokes with each of my three stones and not working so yeah these are hard and no, sharpening the entire edge is not working. LOL

On to the next try...with higher angle and less blade being ground. If that fails....will be getting the KME Broadhead sharpener...just hope to not have to pay $70 to sharpen broadheads. Haha

Man, those are some wicked looking broadheads. Will the screw-in adapters fit on 5/16 carbon shafts?
