The best homemade bag target
« on: March 22, 2012, 08:59:00 PM »
Take a burlap bag and stuff it full of sheered wool a/some sheep. It will stop the fastest bow...including those wheel bows! The neat thing is being wool it actually buffs up the finish on wood shafts! I would have never believed it until I saw it.

Here in Oregon there are lots of sheep ranchers. That is how I found this out. A friend had made up one of these targets. We went out to shoot some arrows. When we went up to the target to pull our arrows I was amazed at how easy it was to pull them out of the target. Absolutely no resistance. When he told me what was in the bag I was really surprised.

Some friends of mine got some sheep and they fill their bags also with wool.
I must say youre absolutely right! IT stops every arrow, pulls easily and if you have it outside and the bag starts to give the filling away you dont have plastic pieces in youre yard.

Now I just need to find some sheep herders..lol

I wonder how Angora would work.

I happen to know someone who raises them and sells the wool/hair(whatever you call it) off his Angora goats.

God bless,Mudd

PS: I also wonder if any of the lanolin bleeds through somewhat waterproofing the burlap.

I heard this a while ago from a random guy from Egypt. No idea where he got it from, but thanks for confirming it, might have to try it out.

Cotton would probably work as well. I'm sure you've all shot cotton bales.

Yep, cotton works. Used it for years.  Doesn't do a good job on wheelies with carbons though.

Most use the module now.  When they pick up the block, some always stays on the ground.  Usually enough to fill two burlap bags.

Use a burlap bag stuffed full of plastic shopping bags. I have used one for years. Periodicaly add more tightly stuffed plastic and then restuff in another burlap bag as wear shows. Great for field points and easy to take with you!
