Putting snakeskin on a quiver?
« on: July 29, 2007, 10:11:00 PM »
I killed a copperhead the other day and i have the skin dried and i think i am gonna put it on a target quiver. i know if you skin a bow you are supposed to spray polyacrylic over it. what about if i put it on a quiver? do i still need to put a finish on it? I was thinking glue the skin to the quiver with barge cement and then cover the exposed leather with painters tape and spray the polyacylic over the skin..

I've used contact cement with great results on skins and leather.

As far as treating, I have a pair of rattler skins on an old leather biker jacket, over 25 years old and they still look good.  No  treatment.

I did this a while back with a cheep plastic quiver. I used Titebond 2 for glue after roughing up the hood of the quiver and then did it just like you would on a bow. The trick was getting the end of the quiver to look right. I did that first and then wrapped the skin around the rest. Turned out pretty good.

I ended up spraying poly on it later just for good measure.
