Snakeskin question

My son has a back quiver with snakeskin inlays (thanks Lou) with the scales still on. Wondering if anybody has any suggestions on treating snakeskin with scales. One gentleman I spoke with suggested glycerin, any thoughts?

hear of people using true oil, but not sure if it would work with the scales???

Actually thought about that, but all I've heard of were using it on scaleless snakeskin backing. That's why I thought Is get some more opinions. Thanks for the reply. Cory

Are you sure the scales are still on? Do not use glycerin on the skin. Was the snake skin tanned before using it for inlays? You can go over the skins with whatever leather treatment you use on the quiver.

I thought the same are you sure the scales are still on. They are the thin clear scales that peal off. Ask who made the quiver if they are.

It's a quiver made by Bogg that I picked up used here in the classifieds. The scales definitely appear to be there. I can hook a fingernail under them and actually had one pop off the other day after the quiver had fallen over and they got brushed a little to hard. I have no idea if they were tanned first. They look really nice, I was just trying to make sure they stay that way. I have some of the Fiebings 4 way leather conditioner and mink oil that I use on most of my leather products. I found an all natural product the other day that is made primarily of beeswax and pine pitch along with some other oils I believe that I was thinking of picking up. Thought being an all natural product it might work well. Thanks for the heads up on the glycerin, that didn't sound right to me.
