arrows for #45 longbow

What are u all shooting out of #45 bows?  i have a 64" blackfeather that is 45 at my 28.  need to buy some arrows n looking for ideas n suggestions.  would like to find a good hunting setup.  thnx

If you like carbons the Heritage 90's should work well for you. They are .530 spine and are a little heavier than most at that spine. Mine are 28 1/2" long and weigh about 440 gr. with 145 pts.

You could shoot Beman MFX 600s as well. I shot them cut at 30" with a 75 gr insert, 20 gr aluminum footing and a 125 gr broadhead. Worked great. total weight is 485 gr. some guys will say that's a bit light, but it worked well for me.

I've sinced moved to a 53# bow and started shooting the MFX 500s.  I still have a lot of 600s if you're interested. We could work out a trade or something cheap.

I would suggest you purchase a test kit from one of the sponsors. Bows are fickle creatures. There is not silver bullet. Spine at 28 inches is one thing but most of us want certain weight arrows. With different weight tips comes dynamic spine. Yes, it changes. If you what to change that weight up front then you need a system that will help match your arrow to your bow. Get a range of arrows to start and work with different weights and such. You can paper tune or shoot at a target to figure out if flying correctly with a bare shaft. Most important is finding someone you trust to help you figure these things out.

Last night I was practicing with my 45# Montana and 1914's at 30" were flying real good.

GT3555's with 145grn points should be in the ball park, also Legacy 2016's with same weight point.

What mmisciag said...it will save you money and time in the end. Mine is a ILF tt titan with the carbon master longbow limbs and I was amazed to find it likes .340 spined carbon arrows with 220 gr tips and it's #42 @28! .500 spines were so weak they nearly missed the hay bale @20yds...so I'm a believer now in trying several different spines with tips giving you an arrow weight you can use. Those .340 beman ICS I settled on are 29" and weigh 539gr.

I always thought the test kits were kind of useless the way they are bundled. My experience is that I need at most 2 different spined arrows of a certain make (e.g Beman MFX) and a bunch of different point weights. I certainly don't need 4 or 5 shafts ranging from 300 - 600 spine. 2 or 3 of them will be way out off.

Most recently I tuned my 45@28 Whip. The ideal test kit would have been a 500 and a 600 spine Beman MFX along with point weights ranging from 100 - 250.

I have collected a wide range of point weights. That helps.

vernon, I can only provide input regarding aluminum, since that is the only type of shaft  that I shoot. My longbows are 45 lbs. @ 28". I shoot Easton Legacy 1916's, 27" long, 3-fletch, 5" feathers, 125 gr. points.  My drawlength is 26.5".  I shoot a split-finger tab.  The 1916's work great!  Shafts cut for your draw at 28".... 1916's maybe, 2016's might be better. As mentioned previously, a arrow test kit might be the first choice. Wish you the best!

thanks for all the feedback!!  I really appreciate it and will hopefully be buying arrows soon.  Can't wait to shoot this bow some more.  Although my axis 400 don't fly like darts its so much fun to shoot I'm slinging arrows anyway:)

I'm with mongoose too, I shoot GT 3555's with 145 grains up front, 28.75 inches BOP and 3 inch fletching out of a r/d long bow; 45# @ my draw length. like darts my friend. they shoot just as good out of my 50# r/d longbow.
