Thanks Trad Gang!
« on: May 02, 2012, 09:52:00 AM »
Top of the morning everyone and greetings from central Iowa. First of all I want to thank all tradgangers in general. The newbies for asking the same questions that I had, and the experienced ones for answering them. I also want to thank the administrators of this forum for keeping this place devoted to traditional archery, where someone who has never even held a bow can come and learn how to shoot. Thank you Trad Gang!

I wanted to share some pictures of my newest bow. I bought this off of e••y. When I got it it needed a new finish pretty badly. So, though I am new to archery in general I have been working with wood for about 6 years, I decided to have a go at refinishing it. I used a super glue finish on the riser and polyurethane on the limbs. I really like how it turned out.

Cocobolo riser with maple (I think) limb core laminations and brown glass. 45# and 56" AMO.

Very nice. Curious, is that super glue finish hard to apply?

No, not really. It does take a toll on your fingerprints though. Basically, you buy the absolutely cheapest, thinnest super glue you can find. Then you use your finger to rub on thin coats. I like to build up several coats before leveling everything out with sandpaper. Once you have built up enough coats, I use progressively finer sandpaper, up to 1000 grit, to polish the finish. Then I use a couple of different auto polishes to get it to an almost mirror finish. After that, just wax the heck out of it. I was originally concerned about the finish being too brittle, but so far (3 months and about 4,000 arrows) it is holding up great.

Thanks for the comments.
