String material for a SOLID glass recurve
« on: May 09, 2012, 04:25:00 PM »
I'm in the process of building a little solid glass recurve. Well, I say building, I mean modifying/fabricating as per instructions from a very nice lady at the TN Classic last weekend.

It'll end up at 44" & I'm hoping for between 45-55# @ 20"

The original bow is an Indian Archery recurve, the one with the Grumley-esque brush-nocks, that I know was built before HMPE strings were even thought of, but I was wondering if I could use a FF material or whether I should stick with B50.

The reason I ask is that it has a little limb twist ('cos I'm an idiot) & a fat string may not sit very well in the pronounced string-grooves.

(Sorry Mods, I also posted this on The Bowyer's Bench by mistake. Could you please delete THAT one!)

I would stick with B-50 or B-55. That being said, I know a lot of guys that are using FF strings on all kind of stuff even self bows. They just pad the loops and don't seem to have ant trouble!!
