I need a couple of strings
« on: May 15, 2012, 05:43:00 PM »
I need two strings built for me... Or maybe nows the time to start doing it for myself?

The bow is a 62"/ 75# @ 28 GN super Ghost.  Of course, I need a string that creeps very little if at all.  I would like it to be VERY quiet, all white, with black serving.  I would like there to be big Wool (bow hush?) silencers in dark brown  built in to them, with wool silencers along both ends of the string too, perhaps the girls can help me out with that.
I've forgotten who it was, but someone used to build smaller but longer silencers into the strings onto the end, not wrapped like hush puppy, rather they were 'puffs' like the silencers are.  I had a couple of them and loved them.   Anyone remember that?

Who can best build that string for me?

If I were to do it for myself, what string would you recommend I buy in order to giver her a go?

Elkbreath,

I can't answer your question's in regards to the "how-to".  I can speek to the quality of "Oliverstacy" string's.  Do a directory search for his name.  Josh will do you up right.  Take care!

X 2 for Josh of OliverStacy.  Top notch strings and a great guy to deal with.  You'll have 'em quick too.

Sounds like a mountain muffler string and I don't know if that individual is making strings anymore. You would have to check a different website, I believe.
Good news is there are plenty of good string makers here on TG that are sponsers!

X 5 for Josh's strings. He's listed in the classifieds as Oliverstacy.

I like the D-10 material, less creep than D-97.  14 strands with .024 Halo serving is what I use on my bows,  some would say overbuilt for my bows but I like the nock fit. Should be plenty strong for your bow.

Mountain Muffler!  thats it.  And that was on another site... thanks for jogging my memory.

I like the wool that the girls sell, and I love hush puppys and bow hush, its on all my bows.  However, the Look of the MM string was great.  I am hoping someone could make something similar, one of you guys here, perhaps using the bow hush wool to do it?

Looked something like this

The more Im thinking on it, the more Im contemplating doing it myself.  Thanks for the string recommendations, I'm looking into it.  Heck, iv'e braided my girls hair lots of times...   :knothead:

Custom strings by guys who know what they are doing just come out better...taking bids.  :-)

All my bows have Josh's strings on them. The first thing I do when I get a new bow is remove the stock string and put one of Josh's on it. Best I have used.

Good luck

I would look into strings by Allen Shafer from lefties r us...a mountain muffler type of string is easy to make..just add some wool in between twist then cut to shape..piece of cake

Ive made plenty of my own puff balls, however, the ones on those strings were tied with serving right into the string, incredibly dense and uniform, along with perfect patterning.  For me it has not been a piece of cake to get such a professional finish that looked and felt like it was part of the string, not just in it.

I am in the middle of working with Oliverstacy, thanks for the direction ya'll.
