Using heat to straighten arrows?
«

Been reading the "How to" and "Build along" sections for straightening wood arrows. Have some Chundoo shafts that are going to be a bear to straighten. Have been using heat to straighten selfbows when making them. Was thinking, a dangerous thing for me :D , would heat help to make the shafts keep their shape after straightening or should I just use the normal straightening methods. Thanks, Don

Don, yes, heat will help straighten crooked arrows and can help set them so they stay straight. Another important consideration is how well the wood for the arrows was cured or seasoned. That makes a big difference in the shafts stability.

Don make sure to let them rehydrate after straightening them. I wait 24 hours. You might have to do them a few times if they're real bad.

Don when folks use a hook to rub the bent area it's a combination of heat from rubbing and compression.
