NC Hog Hunting?
« on: June 06, 2012, 10:22:00 PM »
Now that turkey season has come and gone I'm getting the itch to do a little hunting.  I normally stay on Camp Lejeune but there's no open season for anything right now.  I've heard rumors of hogs up in the Croatan but have never seen any in person (or any sign for that matter).

Do any of yall have any leads on where one might be able to stick a pig around here?  Trying to get in a little more time in the woods now cause I'm going to miss deer season this year!

None I'm aware of that are easily accessed. I have heard of some in Caswell Game Lands but nothing really huntable.

There are some in Randleman, but they are near the Deep River and all are on private lands.

If anyone has info on the Croatan I would also be interested.

They are definitely spreading. Not yet in numbers that we can hunt our way. The boys with dogs are getting them though.  I found sign on the game lands in Camden co while turkey hunting. First I've seen it there in 4 yrs of hunting that area.  There are more down around Engelhard but it is a rough place.

Down in Brunswick county there is a gamelands labeled "A" "B" "C", sory cant remember the name of the game lands there. But you Want "C" they are up hwy 904 - right hand side just before you get to the bridge. turn up into sandcastle lane.

Been talking with biologists and they say these are the easiest hogs to get. They have been migrating up the river system from SC. Private land is around IF you can gain permission and that makes it much easier of course.

If you have a canoe or kayak you will have easier access to the game lands by hunting off the river. This land will make Cambodia look like Kansas in most of it.

Keep in mind you cannot be on Game lands witha broadhead equipped arrow if there is not another season in (deer, turkey, squirrel) however on private land you are good to go.

Hope this helps

HA - know how you mean it - bad for farmers good for us kinda thing. but they are coming not much you can  do about it, once they are in an area they are there to stay.

I have tore Croatan apart - been to places a rabbit couldn't get to - and I have seen no sign of a hog in the area. and I have chased most rumors I have heard. which is mainly around the Page's land in cape carteret/ craotan drive areas.
