soak tube how big

I want to try soaking my next batch of shafts in watco for a few days; how big a pipe should I use?  How many cans of Watco would it take to fill a 30" x 4" diameter tube?

Can I dip a cap over the watco finish after?

I would use as small of a tube as I could get a dz shafts in. I am thinking 2"
Fill till it covers.
Not sure about the cap dip part but seem like a thread was going last year about this,did you try a search?

I doubt you can cap dip over the Watco. Maybe if you wait a month you could. Watco is pretty oily and takes a good time to dry completely.

A 2" pipe works great let em saok a week then dry a week I use ahalf of a can on mine and mke sure my caps are tight and lay on side iywill add a some weight to the shaft if you wanta cap on em let dry 2Weeks in a warm place and spray paint works good for it

I have done quite a few dozen and a 2" p.v.c. d.w.v.{drain,waste,vent} scedule 40 pipe will let you do a dozen shafts at a time...Now remember the smaller the pipe the less oil is needed to fill the tube and whatever your raw shafts are just make sure you cut your pipe to allow that length shaft to slide in...I made mine cause I was a plumber and had all access to the parts needed..I put a 2" p.v.c. cap on one end glued with p.v.c. glue and on the other end a 2" female adapter glued on with a 2" p.v.c plug to screw/unscrew on and off with liquid  pipe dope or teflon tape to keep oil from seaping out cause I did mine a little different with a Tee...Reason I glued a 2" P.v.c. Tee fitting between the two ends and installed a small section of pipe with a cap was so that I could pull off and fill with oil if it needed more but the tee is not needed ...You can do it however you wish..I bought a one gallon container of the Watco danish oil and there is enougth to do a lifetime supply of arrows...Now if you loose an arrow and find it two years later the feathers will be faded or eaten and the point rusty but the shaft will still be good as the day you removed it from the oil bath...Main thing let them dry for at least a week or two cause that oil will soak to the core on most shafts...For cresting go to a Hobby store and look for a paint used called quill or something like that for those small "ho" whatever trains
